Biography

Amanda (Maz) Melhuish is a 26-year-old New Zealand Maori artist. Her creativity covers sketching, painting, sculpting, photography, make-up, special effects, body art, photo manipulation, website design and graphic design.

Art is something that Maz has always been interested in, but passionate isn't a word that she would use to describe her love of art; simply because it is something she has always done.

Since finishing her seventh form year at Auckland Girls’ Grammar School, Maz has continued to develop her artistic skills, by studying the likes of hairdressing, make-up and special effects make-up artistry (all art forms in their own right).

"I enjoy the challenges of body art and special effects; it's a type of challenge that I have never experienced with traditional art. Working with the natural curves of the body and manipulating what is already there without taking away anything can really be a challenge.”

Most recently Maz stretched out into shoe design...not really designing shoes, but designing artworks on shoes to create a custom look. It’s one way that people can have something that is like body art, but not have it wash of in the shower.
